Life consists of a multitude of choices and depending on the choices you make ( and unforseen occurrences) it will lead you down many paths. Including some that you might not have expected or wanted, requiring you to adapt to the situation at hand. As the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu said
“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them – that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”
For instance, I have an Associates in Science Degree for Mechanical Drafting; although to date I have not been able to acquire a job in this field. As a result of this unexpected outcome ( natural and spontaneous change ) my career has gone down a completely different path. It has forced me to turn my artistic skills ( which I learned from my mother, high school art teacher, books, and the Internet ) into a career. I have also been able to use skills that I learned from my time in school to my advantage. Such as how to represent objects in three-dimensional space with CAD ( computer aided drafting ) software, thus increasing my spatial awareness helping me to better envision the objects I draw. This knowledge also made it quite a bit easier for me to learn Blender, and Inkscape.
I will end with a bit of advice:
Due to unforseen occurrences my career has taken a different path than I envisioned. the skills I learned were not used in the way, or at the time I had planned. That does not mean the time I spent attaining my degree was wasted .It is quite the opposite, it actually helped my art career. You should continue learning everything you can, whenever you can to enlarge your mental library. The mere knowledge you acquire the more you have to draw on when completing any, in this case creative, task.
Talking about education here are a few sources I use:
