“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own, and you know what you know. And you are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”
In the artistic field there are many mediums to choose from including graphite pencils, charcoal, crayons, and painting physical and digital to mention a few. They all have their own advantages and disadvantages, as does any medium I suppose. With all this taken into consideration, I find colored pencils to be my favourite medium. This is true for many reasons, including the amount of detail which can be achieved with them, their transparent quality which enables the use of the layering technique, and the actual process of coloring which to me is a form of relaxation.
First on the list , and most important (to me at least) is the amount of detail which can be achieved with them. After all they are pencils, and can be sharpened to an extremely fine point, hence the amount of detail which can be achieved using this medium.
Colored Pencils have a transparent quality similar to watercolor, because of this attribute it is possible to use a layering technique. This consists of adding many light layers of color to your drawing surface. This makes the final color much more intense than if you were to try to achieve the same resulting color in one heavy-handed layer.
The actual process of coloring with colored pencils is my form of relaxation. The repative circular motion used to color each layer relaxes me to a degree. If you relax too much you will end up losing track of what you are doing, and ruin your drawing.
With all that being said I am still learning about the many intricacies of colored pencils with each drawing I do. I hope you have the same experience with whatever medium you favor.
If you were wondering what brand of colored pencil I use, I use Prismacolor (affiliate link) which are not cheap by the way.
What is your favourite medium to use?

I was trying to create a communication device like you would see on Star Trek. But, it looks too much like a smart phone to me.

Today I am going to discuss five technologies that have changed how I sell my art. So fasten your seat belts, and here we go!
This is the most important item on the list, because without it WordPress, WooCommerce, and Blogging would be nonexistant. The online environment gives me ( or you for that matter) the ability to sell digital goods such as art, or music directly to the customer online. It also facilitates the sale of physical goods and services quickly and easily without any human interaction throughout the world.
This is closely related to item #1 Internet. WordPress.com, which offers free services to new and experienced bloggers, and WordPress.org which is the paid version. I am currently hosting my site on WordPress.org, which is the service that makes ArtBalanced.com a reality. Without it the only choice I would have to sell my artwork would be in a gallery setting ,which can be quite a daunting task not to mention expensive.
This is simply a WordPress plugin that allows for online sales, art in my case. It gives you the ability to set up an online shop on your current website, and everything that goes with it such as the cart and checkout pages, payment services, and item listings. For more information visit WooThemes.com
4. Digital Camera
I use a Nikon digital camera to take photos of some of my artwork the rest I take to a professional, but thats for another article. I then use the photographs for my online art listings displayed in the ArtBalanced shop.
I started my blog on WordPress.com, which offers free services to new and experienced bloggers, but after a while I realized it did not give me enough control over my site management. I then upgraded to the paid version at WordPress.org where I am currently posting this article. Blogging gives me the opportunity to connect more personally with my readers/customers then a regular commerce site (amazon.com for example) would allow. It also affords me the opportunity to give background information on the art pieces to my customers, so they are better informed before they make a purchase.
Have you encountered any interesting technologies that have changed the way you sell your art, or whatever it is you sell?

“How did it get so late so soon? Its night before its afternoon. December is here before its June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?”
“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life’s realities.”
The most inspiring and thought-provoking movie I’ve seen to date is Inception. Inception came out in 2010 and was written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ken Watanabe, Tom Hardy, Dileep Rao, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, and Michael Caine.
The plot consists of the main characters Dominick “Dom” Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Ariadne (Ellen Page) attempting to enter the dreams of their target Robert (Cillian Murphy) using an experimental military technology. Once that is accomplished they must implant them with an idea of their own making. Hence the title which refers to the “inception” of an idea in the mind of an individual. It is basically a story about espionage, but Christopher Nolan takes it to a new level of complexly with his addition of the science fiction aspect.
Inception had a good mix of action and intelligence, which made you think more than most films now a days. The story was very intriguing the way it delved into the nature of dreams, and the mechanics of the subconscious. I cannot go into any more detail, because frankly I have not completely figured it out yet. I have always been a believer of mind over body meaning that many physical aliments can be caused and cured with only the power of the human mind , which is more powerful than must people believe or are unwilling to admit. Imagination is , I believe, a key factor in controlling both dreams, and the subconscious. The main idea of the movie is letting go of preconceived notions of how the world works, and replacing it; using the power of ones imagination; with a world of rules and notions of your own making.
If you have seen Inception, what is your take on the main idea of the movie? Please comment below.
